D: On Friday, when you went to the restroom, he "wished me luck" with you. I didn't really get it, but I just thought whatever. And then today, at the _______, when we left the elevator, he said again, that he "wished me luck" on us and on our future "adventures." He said adventures. Then he said that, in his state of mind, he thinks it's only right to warn me to be careful.
K: Wow, he really fucking hates how happy people are around him.
D: He's jelly.

If there is ever, and I mean EVER, a day in which I can listen to an entire The XX album and think to myself on every song “Yeah, yeah I really identify with these lyrics and these emotions,” then I will know I have made a huge and terrible mistake.

Look, I love The XX, I do, but holy shit never have I heard two people produce so many songs that are about just how fucking hard it is to be obsessively in love with someone else. It’s just torturous. That is a pain point that is creating some beautiful, beautiful work, but typically after a first novel or a first album or any first true act of creation, I mean, you’ve exhausted your umbrage, so you’ve gotta start over.

But The XX? Two albums. Two. Two full-length albums about how wretched eternal love is and how it can tear apart the strongest of bonds. Like an ocean’s depth, churning and spilling, beating against the cliff side, wanting only to be with it, close to it, and in its affection, slowly eating away, tearing away the rock. So it can only do what it knows — hit harder.

It’s too depressing oh my god I need to stop listening like right fucking now.

I’ve been thinking for a few weeks just what to spend my tax return on because it’s the kind of chunk of money that just shows up one day like a doorstep-baby dropped off by a wayward stork, and instead of thinking “Holy shit, I’m 24 years old and what the fuck am I going to do with this baby?” I’m actually thinking “sweet, what could I trade this baby in for at the baby-trading store?” because in this allegory, babies are coveted for their supple stem cells (that’s how babies work, right?)

Anyways, I’m just gonna buy like, a thousand albums. Because, duh.

The top contenders have been:

• A couple of camera lenses, including one telescopic, and maybe a pair of sweet boots or some shit.

• An insanely beautiful jacket I found at Neiman Marcus because I walked into a Neiman Marcus for the first time in my life and they offered me water while browsing. That was insane. I dropped my voice an octave and said things like “evening sir” to pretend like I fit in. I think I pulled it off pretty well. I would also purchase a Burberry tie because… Burberry tie.

• Loans (of which some of it already went I’m sorry I’m kind of responsible whatever)
